Tips To Help Me Stop Snoring – Get To Know About The Problems And Cures

When I was young, I never thought there was a big deal to snoring, and neither did my family. As a matter of fact, we made playful jests and jokes whenever we caught someone snoring, and no one ever took it serious. Even when my snoring started becoming louder and more persistent than most of the others, I found was told that is was an evidence of good living.

I never thought there were really any serious problems associated with snoring until when I got into college. Then all of a sudden I would have my roommate choosing to spend all night in class or in the library rather than come home to sleep, which was odd; but truth be told, he had told me previously that he could no longer stand the night noises, and that something would have to be done to stop them. But that wasn’t all: soon after, I would have people – neighbors – pounding on my door at all hours of the night, shouting that I should go easy on the racket, which I didn’t understand if my breathing noises were an evidence of good living.

But it was when I started having trouble staying awake in daytime that I finally realized and acknowledged that I had serious issues that I needed to work on. You see, what I did not know before was that snoring combined with rapid and heavy breathing is never a good sign. I could not hear it by myself, but I had been told that I was starting also to have interspersed breathing patterns in my sleep, coupled with seven- to ten-second periods of halting in my inhalation and exhalation process.

When I went to see a physician about it eventually, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea, which incidentally was a more serious sleep disorder that can cause excessive sleepiness during the day; precisely what I had been suffering from. Another problem that I suddenly found now was that this kind of sleeping disorder was associated with several heart disorders that people suffer from.

I was headed for a heart attack!

Worse, the condition causes oxygen deprivation in the brain, and is also worsened by it; it furthermore results in accumulation of acid in the blood, and increased pressure on the brain stem. Other problems linked to sleep apnea include heartbeat irregularities, high blood pressure, and decreased contractile force of the heart muscle. It has also been linked to some cases of sudden infant death syndrome.

The problems and cures for sleep apnea were however as simple as you can imagine. If it is caused by obstruction of the airway, what you need is to remove the obstruction, probably by surgery; if it is due to some abnormality in the part of the brain that controls respiration, you may have to live with stop snoring devices for the rest of your life. However if obesity is the reason why you have sleep apnea, your cure for the condition would to lose weight through diet and exercise.

Mine was the weight, so I started to lose weight. I still on the program and I still snore, but I’m told it’s getting better.
